Regain control of your social media experience
Overview
During the height of the pandemic, it was difficult for elderly adults to perform necessary tasks like obtaining groceries or picking up medication without risking their safety. We set out to create a platform connecting adults willing to donate their time with homebound elders that are in need of help.

WHY SHOULD WE CARE?
Covid was a difficult time for many older Americans. Suddenly they had their independence stripped away from them and had to limit contact with friends and family members. Lockdown was an isolating experience for everyone, but it was even more difficult for the 16.7M older adults living alone in the US.
On the other hand, many states had stay at home orders that forced many adults to work from home for the first time. Combined with those furloughed or laid off due to limited virtual work opportunities, there was now a growing pool of people with extra time on their hands stuck at home, restless and eager to help their community.
WHAT ARE THEIR CONCERNS?
We polled those looking for help and those providing help to get a better sense of their situation, concerns, and needs. The team also spoke directly to both elderly and immunocompromised individuals to broaden our understanding of the problem.
WHO ARE WE DESIGNING FOR?
Based on our research, we created three archetypes. Our primary user, Crystal, is an elderly adult. We also created Conner, a secondary user who's navigating the app on behalf of a loved one, and Vicky, the volunteer who would be helping people like Crystal and Conner's grandpa.
The best way to learn is through personalized, live feedback from experts on the topic.

EARLY PROTOTYPES
After going through rounds of task-based user testing, we refined aspects of the experience such as improving the transition between stages and altered the wording of text or appearance of buttons to avoid confusion. We also adjusted the interface to be more intuitive when completing common tasks, aligned our visual styles, and tried to give Swap a simple but artistic aesthetic.
